Arrow 5 - 6 Marechal

Arrow tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. They fielded: Auer - Barizza, Lappinen - Viên Phúc, Olmeo, Braun, Paulino, Vallant - Yun Lai, Aizat, Fasching.

Marechal had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Starters: Lissi - Caneco, Sabóia, ten Oever, Stiel - Draghi, Mikhnovets, Nunes, Carron - Zarei, Kusztal.

After a fine move down the middle Gianfranco Barizza nearly gave the home side a goal after 5 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. 12 minutes into the match, a typically brave header by Nikolaus Fasching from Nguyễn Viên Phúc's cross looped just over the opposing goalkeeper's desperate reach. Goal for Arrow, making the score 1 - 0. The Arrow free kick 18 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of Nguyễn Viên Phúc, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 2 - 0! The players of Arrow now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. After 23 minutes Gaël Carron seized on an opportunistic attack from the right, and scored for Marechal making it 2 - 1. With 25 minutes played, Lee Yun Lai could have brought this one home for Arrow as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 1. Possession in this half belonged to Arrow, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.

Content with how the game was proceeding, the Arrow coach let Philipp Wieland replace Abd Wahab Aizat after 46 minutes. After 55 minutes, Marechal switched João Tiago Nunes with Armindo Maia Pereira, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. With João Tiago Nunes no longer on the pitch, Armindo Maia Pereira took over free kick duty. Marechal needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 65 minutes Hossein Zarei made way for Anderson Petrônio. With 65 minutes played, the Marechal coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Jonas Campeche came on, Gaël Carron had to leave the fray. Arrow's Lee Yun Lai swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defence were able to clear the ball. Boris Mikhnovets finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 2 - 2 74 minutes into the match. After 77 minutes, the Arrow coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Gianfranco Barizza off the field. Benjamin Putz took his place. With their counter attack move halted 83 minutes into the game, Marechal were left with a free kick. The ball is passed straight through to the other end of the penalty area, with hopes for it to reach Luís Marcelo Caneco. However, he didn't have his wits about him and the ball went out. 85 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Arrow substitution. Robert Katzenbeisser came on for Gerhard Braun. Under heavy pressure after 85 minutes, the inexperienced Arrow struggled to maintain their level of play. Arrow had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.

As neither team was able to break the deadlock before the end of regular play, the teams took to the field again for extra time. A review of the gameplan helped Arrow get back to a solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. The home crowd was not impressed by the fancy moves of Marechal's Jan Kusztal after 94 minutes. He converted a pass from the left for a goal, resulting in the visitors taking the 2 - 3 lead. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, Boris Mikhnovets would have put Marechal up another goal 95 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. A well placed corner kick from Soeiro Paulino was followed by Nguyễn Viên Phúc's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Arrow, the score now 3 - 3. There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty shoot-out to settle the result.

Arrow's Sascha Auer looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 3 - 3. Marechal's Armindo Maia Pereira was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 3 - 4! Arrow's Benjamin Putz showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 4 - 4. Marechal's Anderson Petrônio kept his cool as he faced down Sascha Auer. His composure paid off as he scored easily for 4 - 5. Arrow's Philipp Wieland coolly put the ball past Giancarlo Lissi. 5 - 5. Marechal's Jonas Campeche seemed nervous, putting the ball to the centre of the goal. Sascha Auer however, made an early dive to the right, and the ball went right by him. 5 - 6. Arrow's Robert Katzenbeisser penalty shot was very well placed but Giancarlo Lissi went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 5 - 6. Marechal's Sorato Sabóia looked nervous even as he was putting the ball on the spot. He didn't take much of a run up, and his weak shot was easily saved by the keeper. Oooh - how unlucky! Arrow's Heinrich Vallant attempt hit the underside of the bar, but rebounded down into the grateful arms of Giancarlo Lissi. The score stays 5 - 6. Most important Arrow player was Heinrich Vallant. Antti Lappinen on the other hand, had a terrible day. Boris Mikhnovets performed admirably for Marechal. However, Armindo Maia Pereira made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 5 - 6.
