The fans at the stadium today were roasting in the hot sun. It was a sunny day and the technical players could roll the ball around with ease. Those that had to chase after the ball found the weather less appealing, it especially stymied the game of Powerful and Quick players. The following players took the field: Parla - Tonfoni, Delley, Siegfried - Metz, Ahlberg, Tinti, Touchais, Bocion - Blanchet, Merk.

Starters: Coenegracht - Taboin, Reis, Vellemäe - Zima, Witcher, Kiszi, Grymov - Amorim, Miranda, Tucano.

FC Zuzwil United fielded a 3-5-2 lineup. For Mengo/Várzea Medicine 3012, the formation of choice was a 3-4-3. Mengo/Várzea took a creative approach on the field. Many thought Frank Metz ought to have been awarded a penalty 6 minutes into the match, as he went down trying to beat Raymon Coenegracht after an attack through the middle gave him the one-on-one opportunity. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 34 minutes on the clock after Werni Delley's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the FCZU player a yellow card though. FCZU made a bid to take the lead as a ball coming in on the right hand side left Brandon Blanchet completely alone with keeper Raymon Coenegracht, who made a spectacular block. With 42 minutes gone, a long pass from the defense of FCZU resulted in a counter-attack that set Raffi Siegfried free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. Sergio Parla looked great 43 minutes in after stopping a shot by the visitors' Nikolay Grymov. The cannonball from 35 yards by Alessandro Tinti of FCZU was an impressive attempt, but didn't make it into the net. It was 0 - 0 at the break. The battle in midfield was tight, with possession split evenly between the teams.

László Kiszi almost seemed to dance around Alessandro Tinti, his movements were so smooth. Unfortunately for Mengo/Várzea, his shot ended up on the wrong side of the post. FCZU's Tobias Merk tried to break through the middle repeatedly, but the visitors' defenders were just too alert. Tuta Tucano's fine footwork caused nothing but headaches for Alessandro Tinti. The keeper wasn't fooled however, and confidently scooped up the ball. The referee showed Mengo/Várzea's Otoniel Amorim the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After 85 minutes, FCZU's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game. The head of Brandon Blanchet connected with a beautiful corner kick after 86 minutes. He wasn't shooting, though, but rather passing to Maxime Touchais of FCZU who buried the shot for 1 - 0. The fourth official announced that there would be 1 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. Tobias Merk had a fantastic opportunity to put FCZU up another goal 89 minutes into the match, but he fired just over the crossbar. Nikolay Grymov made a run for the goal 89 minutes into the game but the home team's left side was too well defended and the attack fizzled out. The match ends 1 - 0. Mengo/Várzea set the tempo, maintaining 51 percent of possession.

The most outstanding FCZU player was without a doubt Maxime Touchais. Good thing Werni Delley isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. Most important Mengo/Várzea player was László Kiszi. Speaking of stinking up the place, Sämi Zima sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
