It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd that came out to the stadium today. For some players the sunny weather was bad news. It made Powerful and Quick players a bit sluggish. For Technical players, it was instead an advantage, allowing them to shine on the pitch. Starters: Suykerbuyk - Węgorzewski, Bugo, 中曽根 (Nakasone), Übelacker - 岩崎 (Iwasaki), Pflanzner, Kasyanchuk, Sliwka, 榎本 (Enomoto) - Ansiaux.

Lineup: Coenegracht - Taboin, Reis, Vellemäe - Zima, Witcher, Kiszi, Grymov - Amorim, Miranda, Tucano.

Kiyozumi Warriors started the game in a 4-5-1 formation, whereas Mengo/Várzea Medicine 3012 lined up in a 3-4-3. Kiyozumi were mostly trying to use their divine (+4) skill at attacking on the flanks. Mengo/Várzea took a creative approach on the field. The visiting Derrick Witcher was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 4 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. 6 minutes into the match, Mengo/Várzea's José Luiz Miranda demonstrated his running prowess as he raced past his defender and passed the ball to Otoniel Amorim who chipped it in for 0 - 2. After 13 minutes, Mengo/Várzea's José Luiz Miranda burst through the central defense and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 0 - 3. The swift technical skills of László Kiszi were often too much for the tall but somewhat slow Igor Węgorzewski who was humiliated after 29 minutes. He'll be breathing a huge sigh of relief after the final shot went wide. The home side worked hard to get through the middle and as a result, had a good chance of getting one back as Gabriël Ansiaux tried lifting the ball over keeper Raymon Coenegracht. Unfortunately, the ball went just over the bar. A wonderful trick by Gabriël Ansiaux after 38 minutes left Paul Taboin bewildered and really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. With 40 minutes played, Otoniel Amorim nearly put the visitors up by one more as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot whizzed just over the bar. Some lightning fast dribbles by Tuta Tucano left Benjamin Übelacker way behind after 42 minutes, but the shot was just wide. 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Mengo/Várzea had 54...54 percent possession. AH AH AH!

José Luiz Miranda was, after 63 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper Robert Suykerbuyk made the save. The bench was restless, and with 70 minutes gone Kiyozumi's coach gave Benedykt Garbacki the opportunity to try to change the team's fortunes. Gabriël Ansiaux reluctantly left the field. A misunderstanding between the visitors' keeper Raymon Coenegracht and his left defense could have resulted in a goal for Kiyozumi, but 智 (Satoshi) 岩崎 (Iwasaki)'s finish was way too meek. Robert Suykerbuyk got a fingertip on Sämi Zima's shot from the left 74 minutes in, and managed to keep the visitors from going up another goal. Maybe it was because of his team's lead, or maybe it was due to the ease with which he broke down the left, but Nikolay Grymov was a bit too sure of his talents, so instead of taking the easy tap-in goal after 79 minutes, he went for the backheel, which he put woefully wide. A spectacular Kiyozumi effort on the right resulted in a goal at the 81 minute mark by 敬弘 (Takahiro) 榎本 (Enomoto), making the score 1 - 3. The fourth official announced that there would be 2 minutes of stoppage time, giving fans a slim hope that their team could get one more attack in before this was all over. The match ends 1 - 3. Mengo/Várzea set the tempo, maintaining 53 percent of possession.

Kiyozumi's best player was Martin Sliwka. Good thing Robert Suykerbuyk isn't a horse, because he'd surely be sent to the glue factory after that performance. The most outstanding Mengo/Várzea player was without a doubt László Kiszi. Speaking of stinking up the place, Sämi Zima sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham.
