2nd Team Chat with MickL67

MickL67 (1733812) is a stalwart of the Scottish scene with well over 1,000,000,000 forum posts and a high achieving team in the Newark Hitmen (243390) with a rich history, including nearly making the SPL (only stopped by the legendary INCHES ATHLETIC in the latter's last competitive match) and several high-profile tournament awards such as The Hoss' Headband Championship and Farmboy's Lost the Plot Classic...

He was also among those who signed up for a 2nd team as soon as the news was announced by HT. Winterfell Celtic (280713) are now on track in Ireland with some promising youngsters and a couple of Euros in the bank. I caught up with Mick to rummage through his accounts and discuss a few ins and outs of managing a 2nd team...

JP: You got your 2nd team Winterfell pretty much as soon as they were available. How's it going? Do you have a long-term plan and how successful do you hope to be?

MickL: I took the option of a second team right away as it was an opportunity to start fresh in a another country. We called them Winterfell Celtic for now but this may change if something better comes up.

I want to get into the Irish Premier with my second team in the long term but short term is to save £20million using wing training & then take it from there. The aim is to have as many Scots in the team as possible too.

So far at 1.5mil, a 27,000 stadium & an estimated 4mil worth of players. Results wise we are still very poor though, RATME in their current state of decline could beat us.

Haha would love to see that match! Was it an easy decision then ...and is it worth the platinum supporter?

Yes it was easy at the time, seemed like a great challenge. The rise in supporter costs could be a future issue though. Hattrick have not been very forthcoming in information lately. Mashup was starting his side in Ireland so right away there is someone I want to beat at everything. albeit he is virtually unplayable when it comes to Bingo.

Yeah I noticed you had some trouble with your tea ladies recently, hope that didn't end too ugly… How has it affected your time spent on HT? The 2nd team, not Mashup's visit that is...

Aye Mashup, watch out for future press releases! Likes the older lady that lad haha! My time hasn't been affected much, thanks to smartphones I'm still always on here. A far cry from my early days when I visited net cafes in Toronto to pick my team once a week. I probably was more tactically astute back then.

Have there been many links between the Hitmen and Winterfell, e.g players sold from one to the other or taking part in the same tourneys?

It's forbidden for Winterfell to sign current or former Hitmen players. I understand this has to be the way, no complaints. I will look to form links with HT Scotland in general though by training an NT or u20 player. Links will arise in tournaments though with my RL friends OldSchool81 & Mashup.

Yeah you seem to have a lot of good pals on HT in Scotland, but how does the Irish community compare?

Sleazy Staff & corruption is present in the form of Ginger Luthario & former Headband Champion himself Mod -Fitzer. He runs the country with an iron fist, I think they are all scared of him. :)

Seem a good bunch otherwise. I did give England some thought but with such low quality managers as Canagoon & Doyley it wouldn't have been a challenge!

I know, the quality is horrific, although Cana has a 2nd team in Scotland now too! I've heard of people getting mixed up between the teams and forgetting line ups or buying players for the wrong team, has that ever happened to you or do you find the interface OK?

Yes. Bidded on players with the wrong club a couple of times. Also fired & hired staff with the wrong club. Its certainly a risky business this 2 teams thing especially if logging into HT under the influence of alcohol as is my trademark.

Well no one can take that away! Does this mean you have to choke down a Jameson's on a Sunday afternoon now?

I don't actually mind a Jamesons. Not quite a good Scotch, but that John Jameson was Scottish! Generally though I'm still a German Wheat Bier man…

Jameson was Scottish? Every day's a school day eh?! Oh well we're at danger of veering wildly off topic (who'd have thought?) so I better wrap it up there. Maybe readers will have some further questions or comments over in the forum (16449081.15). Cheers again for your words Mick, and all the best with Winterfell Celtic!
