3-5-2014 Editorial: Better support for Hattrick apps

Over the past few months we've made many improvements to our support for third party Hattrick developers. Check out what is possible now and, if you are a developer yourself, take the chance to receive an award at our upcoming CHPP Gala!
When we as founders of Hattrick came back as owners last autumn, one of the things we really wanted to improve was our support for third party developers.

For many years we have had a program called CHPP which is open to anyone that wants to build interesting apps or websites that can complement the Hattrick experience. But some parts of the game haven't been available to CHPP developers, and we know that this lack of support has sometimes held back ideas and projects that could have made Hattrick more fun for our users. We want that situation to change. We think CHPP can play an important role in Hattrick going forward.

One of the reasons for this is that we see Hattrick more and more as a service that should be available in many platforms, not only on the Web in it's own web site (although of course that will always be our main focus) but also on the various mobile platforms out there. We'll never be able to address all these opportunities ourselves, which is why we want to make it easier for other developers to build cool stuff for the Hattrick community.

So we really dug in and added a lot of support for CHPP during the end of last year. The fact of the matter is that by now it has become possible to do really interesting things with apps or through external sites that weren't previously possible. We really hope this will trigger a new wave of cool CHPP projects, and we are committed to giving them the visibility and support that they may need. To back this up, we're announcing a glitzy "CHPP Awards" ceremony where we will name "The Most Improved CHPP Project" and "The Best New CHPP Project" for 2014. Each category winner will receive a cash prize of 2000 USD as well as an all-expenses paid trip to an international Hattrick user meet up. The competition will run through out summer until the end of September. Details about the competition will follow in a separate announcement.

Here's a list of the capabilities we've added for CHPP developers in the last few months, in case you are curious about what your favorite app might be able to do in future versions - or if you want to make one of your own.

* Update training type, training percentage, and stamina share.

* Search the transfer market, see current transfer status of a player, and place bids.

* Check rating predictions when setting match orders.

* We've added support for Tournaments (viewing what tournaments a team is in, tournament details, fixtures, and league tables).

* Support for Ladders (what ladders a team is in, ladder details, and lists of all teams with positions).

* Support for Youth Leagues (league details, tables, and fixtures).

Everything in CHPP that involves permissions other than reading data is Supporter only. In this case it means changing training and placing bids will be Supporter only if implemented in any CHPP apps.

We hope this improved support for third party developers will be put to good use! If you have an idea for a new way to use Hattrick's CHPP data, check out how you can become a CHPP developer and have your app published in the Hattrick CHPP portal.
